Judy Gray
Judy was diagnosed with stomach cancer.  She had felt physically fine all along, but massive blood loss caused by the cancer’s pressure on blood vessels caused her to deteriorate rapidly.

Lionel Hartley
They all agreed that he couldn’t continue on the walk because the risk to his health was too great.  They also recognised that the walk out of the area would take two days, whichever way they went.  Being familiar with the area, they knew that mobile phones were out of range for most of the walk, so they hadn’t brought them.

Cornelia Payne
Her tractor hit a log that was submerged in high grass, and started to tilt.  Afraid that the tractor would roll over on top of her, she jumped off.  Without her weight on it, the tractor righted itself as it went over the log.  It then began to roll backwards down the slope toward her, and Cornelia was run over by the large rear wheel of the one tonne tractor.  The accident broke Cornelia’s pelvis and lacerated her leg.

Anthony Leighton
Anthony’s wife, Stephanie arrived home that afternoon and was surprised when he didn’t welcome her as he usually did, so Stephanie headed outside to find him. When she saw the cherry picker on its side, she assumed he must be doing maintenance work on it, but as she approached she saw Anthony lying on the ground.

Billy Howell
Billy did what many children do, and without thinking used his teeth to pull on the Lego. With the pieces still in his mouth, Billy started climbing down from the bunk.  Then things went wrong.  Billy fell from the top bunk onto the floor, and when he hit the ground, he inhaled the small pieces down into his lung.

Michael Wardlaw
Shailer Park man Michael Wardlaw never thought he would be leaving the island by rescue helicopter. The Wardlaw family holiday in November 2006 ended in Michael being urgently airlifted from Stradbroke Island to hospital in Brisbane by RACQ CareFlight.

Keith Alcock
Keith’s wife Judy quickly climbed down to where Keith lay.  He was disorientated and confused, and there was a lot of blood everywhere from a head wound.  Judy helped Keith back up the slope.  They soon realised he was badly injured, so he couldn’t walk out of the park.
